Expo Chicago - Artists Announced for In/Situ, In/Situ Outside, and 2015 Expo Projects!
Expo Chicago, the annual International Exposition of Contemporary and Modern Art opens in September, and the list of participating artists has just been announced. Expo Chicago 2015 is to be the fourth and the largest edition to date, gathering 140 galleries from 16 countries and 47 cities around the world. It starts on September 17th and runs through September 20th, 2015 taking place at the historic Navy Pier, as in previous years. So let’s see who are this year’s participants in their In/Situ, site specific program, and EXPO projects?
2015 In/Situ: Suspended: Parceling the Sky
This years In/Situ is curated by Executive Director of The Contemporary Austin Louis Grachos and it features large-scale installations inspired by light, atmospheric and climate conditions and subject matter inspired by the Chicago landmark – Anish Kapoor’s Cloud Gate. In/Situ focuses on the suspended works of art, and the installations will be placed through the Festival Hall at the Navy Pier.
In/Situ will feature works of the following artists: Matthias Bitzer (Marianne Boesky Gallery), Carol Bove (David Zwirner), Daniel Buren (Lisson Gallery), Andy Coolquitt (Lora Reynolds Gallery), Antony Gormley (White Cube), Sung Jang (Volume Gallery), Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle (Galerie Thomas Schulte), Keith Sonnier (Pace Gallery), Jessica Stockholder (Kavi Gupta) and Cerith Wyn Evans (White Cube).
Chicago Expo – In/Situ Outside
2015 In/Situ Outside is presented in partnership with the Chicago Park District and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) and it focuses on the temporary public art installations scattered around Chicago communal locations. The new works of renowned artists will be accessible to the general public and not only to the visitors of Expo Chicago, and will stay on view for the whole year. The In/Situ Outside pieces will be on view at Chicago’s Museum Campus and Grant Park near the lakefront, with the additional public art pieces placed all around Chicago neighborhoods.
In/Situ Outside will feature works of: Daniel Buren (Bortolami), Ewerdt Hilgemann (BORZO Gallery) and Giuseppe Penone (Marian Goodman Gallery) exhibited on Chicago’s Museum Campus and Herb Alpert, Chakaia Booker (Trust for Public Land), Mel Kendrick (David Nolan Gallery), Robert Lobe (Rhona Hoffman Gallery), Joel Shapiro (Pace Gallery), Ai Weiwei and Christopher Wool (Luhring Augustine Gallery) for the Chicago Park District.
2015 EXPO Projects
Expo Projects is a selection of additional large-scale installations, site-specific and performative works which will be on view in and outside the main exposition space. Artist who will showcase their pieces for Expo Projects are: Daniel Buren (Bortolami), Spencer Finch (Rhona Hoffman Gallery), Susan Hefuna (Rhona Hoffman Gallery), Sandro Miller (Catherine Edelman Gallery), Amalia Pica (KÖNIG GALERIE), Hunter Reynolds (P.P.O.W / Iceberg Projects), Jason Salavon (Inman Gallery), Dan Sullivan and Edra Soto (Morgan Lehman Gallery) Hank Willis Thomas, Jim Ricks and Ryan Alexiev (Presented by Project&), Glenn Wexler (Zolla/Lieberman Gallery) and Bryan Zanisnik, (Aspect/Ratio)
Expo Chicago International Exposition of Contemporary and Modern Art 2015
Expo Chicago is a four-day event, followed by the Expo Art Week from 14th to 20th September. Within the scope of the Expo other art events and new programs will be taking place such as /Dialogues in partnership with the School of The Art Institute of Chicago and EXPO VIDEO Presented in partnership with Columbia College Chicago. There is something of interest for everyone, so make sure you visit Expo Chicago at the Navy Pier from 17th to 20th September, 2015.
