For the fifth time, the Houston Fine Art Fair will take place in Texas’ largest city, featuring both modern and contemporary art by emerging and established artists. Since its first edition held in 2010, it was dubbed “The City’s Art Fair”, offering a rich artistic week filled with cultural projects by internationally renowned galleries and artists. As the city’s art scene thrives, the event continues to contribute to the establishment of the region as one of the world’s top destination for collectors and art lovers. The Houston Fine Art Fair is produced by the Hamptons Expo Group from New York, whose other fairs include ArtAspen, Palm Springs Fine Art and ArtHamptons. Aside from about fifty exhibiting galleries from the US and abroad, the event will also provide a series of on-site installations, panel discussions, special events, meetings, documentary screening and exhibitions.

Special Events and Projects

The series of many special projects as part of the Houston Fine Art Fair start on the Opening Night, when the holders of the Black Card and the VIP Pass will be the first to view and acquire important works of art presented by the exhibiting galleries. Both previews will benefit the FotoFest International exhibition titled Mapping Territories, featuring photographic works by seven international artists. During all three days, among other happenings, the highlights will be The Loft, a space for the installation and performance of four artists presented by The Art League of Houston; the Paper Today installation, introduced by Mexican curator Mariana Valdez Debes and featuring works by three Latin American artists working with paper as primary medium; the exhibition and the documentary screening dedicated to the pioneering abstract painter from Houston, Dorothy Hood, and finally, the Houston Artists Hall of Fame, a tribute show honouring the works by the second round of the city’s eleven most prominent artists working from 1970 till 2000, seven painters (including Mark Flood) and four sculptors. The event will also honour Michelle Swain Barnes with the 2015 Illumination Award for Achievement in Arts Education, Clint Willour with the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award and Lester Marks with the 2015 Arts Patron of the Year Award.
