Ana Bambic Kostov is an art historian with passion for contemporary art.

It’s the middle of May and it’s all about the New York art fair season again! The upcoming art shows are many, from the celebrated Frieze, the hip NADA and SELECT, to the 1:54 Contemporary African art fair. All of them are having a demanding task to outrun the Venice Biennale, which has already begun and enduring the first criticism as well. Another Italian art fair is happening in Rome next week, ROMART, making us curious about what will be displayed. Let’s see what the commercial market has to offer in New York in the week to come, but let’s not forget about the independent shows either. A renowned photographer, Gillian Laub, is having an intriguing showcase at Benrubi Gallery, but the focus is shifted to single exhibitions in the urban art realm. Tellas is showing at Mini Galerie in Amsterdam, Moneyless at BC Gallery in Berlin, and Paris Fan Museum prepared a very interesting group show in which street art meets fan design. Street art festivals are expectedly coming up, scattered in the most unexpected places. A small city in Poland, Katowice is having its own event, gathering a group of renowned names from the urban creative sphere. An exciting week is upon us, with another art fair moment in one of the biggest art capitals in the world and lots of globally spread happenings. Pick one closest to you and do your homework before you visit your mom on her day!
