Galeria Millan - Booth C3

The Sao Paulo art gallery, Galeria Millan, will participate at this year’s Art Basel with the works of Artur Barrio. Working with different mediums, such as performance, installation and video, and with materials such as meat, salt and organic waste, the Brazilian artist plays with the concepts of art and reality. In his Situações (Situations), he physically manipulates space: modifying it and rendering it both active and vibrant. For Art Basel, Galeria Millan will present the photographic documentation of three of these Situations: Navalha Relógio (1970), 6 Movimentos (1974) and Uma observação, 6 aproximações, 1 recuo (1975). Galeria Millan was founded in 1986 and has a rich history in participating in biennials and presenting exhibitions at the most prestigious art institutions.

Luxembourg & Dayan - Booth J7

Luxembourg & Dayan, based in New York and London, will have a solo presentation dedicated to the Italian artist Michelangelo Pistoletto, one of the most important artists of Arte Povera. At Art Basel there will be two of his most politically-charged works from the late 1960s and 1970s, entitled La Gabbia (The Cage) and Mobili Capovolti (Overturned Furniture). Essential to the artist’s artistic development, these pieces were not so familiar to a wide audience. La Gabbia installation will feature a wall-to-wall cycle of mirrored panels simulating a prison cell that the visitors can experience, while reflecting in the panels there will be Mobili Capovolti, being pieces of furniture scattered across the floor as if after an uprising.
