Path to Life - Artist Talk with Kang Mu-Xiang and Peter Funken

September 18, 2016

One of the Taiwanese artists with the international reputation, Kang Mu-Xiang is taking part at the Berliner Liste 2016 as a special feature, with his series of sculptures entitled Path to Life. These big, radiant pieces are made with discarded long elevator steel cables from Taipei 101, which are replaced every 8 years. The sculptures look soft, as if filled with air, while their tactile texture is inviting to the observer. They appear to be breathing, as if a human needs to breathe, while trapped underneath the concrete and steel monster of contemporary urban life.

On the evening of Saturday, September 17, Kang Mu-Xiang conversed with Dr. Peter Funken about his environmental views and oeuvre, while screening videos portraying his work.

The conversation can be listened to in its entirety on Widewalls Soundcloud, available only in German (with translated portions from Chinese).
