Those Who Survive the Streets Rule the World!

As the main curator of the exhibition, Paulo Lucas von Vacano explains: a revolution occurs when the street enters the museum, and when the museum becomes the street. In the exhibition catalogue, he states that surviving the streets means that you can rule the world, pointing to a number of urban creatives who reached the global fame coming from the streets. “The street watches and the street governs”, continues his elaboration von Vacano, "the street is one of the cursors on the contemporary art map, which governs much of what is going on in the art world."

Over 200 works will be displayed in several sections of the show, bringing to the audiences artists like Mike Giant, WK Interact, Sten and Lex, Will Barras, Cope2, Jeremy Fish, Doze Green, Roa, Chaz, Swoon, Fafi, Koralie, Bo130, Miss Van, Hyuro, Microbo, Galo, 2501, Invader, Moneyless, Giacomo Spazio, Solomostry, Shepard Fairey, Agostino Iacurci, and Mosa One, among others. The representatives of pop-surrealism will also be present with their works, including Ray Caesar, Marion Peck, Mark Ryden, Camille Rose Garcia, Yosuke Ueno, Kazuki Takamatsu, and Ron English’s toys.

Four Sections of the Exhibition

The exhibition is divided among four sections titled Street Art Stories, Writing in Rome 1979-2017, Keith Haring Deleted, and Fuck You All. Street Art Stories outlines the development of Street Art through massive murals and mosaics at the entering area of the show. Keith Haring Deleted is a display of photographs by Stefano Fontebasso De Martino from the museum’s collection, showing the murals painted by Keith Haring on the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome in 1984, and another of his public works from 1984-86 comprised of transparent panels. Writing in Rome 1979-2017 traces the relationship between the city of Rome and writing. Its focus is on the graffiti writing in the Roman sphere, starting from 1979, when the first show of graffiti outside of the US was staged in this city. Finally, Fuck you All, a traveling exhibition of Glen Friedman works is also included as a section in the show.
