Fondation Beyeler, in collaboration with UBS Arts, organized an event that will take place in London during Frieze week on Wednesday, the 4th of October, and will present the newest edition of the Artist Talks series, this time with the iconic performance artist Marina Abramović. Hosted by the Serpentine Sackler Gallery, this will be the third edition of the Artist Talks project. The Serbian artist will discuss her pioneering performance art with Hans Ulrich Obrist, Artistic Director of the Serpentine Galleries. The event will feature an open, dynamic format that will also provide a platform for the dialogue between the artist and the public. Fittingly, the talk with Marina Abramović will mark three years since both the Fondation Beyeler and the Serpentine Galleries last collaborated with her.
The third episode of the Artist Talks series will provide a unique opportunity for audiences to hear first-hand about Marina Abramović's exploration of physical and mental limits over the years. With the esteemed art curator, critic and historian of art Hans Ulrich Obrist at the conversation's helm, Abramović will speak about her emotional and spiritual transformation as a pioneering performance artist. Her performance art started developing in Belgrade in the early 1970s when she started to create some of the form’s most important early works. Often the first name that comes to mind whenever a conversation about performance art or important female contemporary artists takes place, Marina Abramović dedicated her career to investigating the complexities, limitations, strengths and vulnerabilities of the human body. Besides hearing about her contributions to the contemporary scene, the audience will also have the opportunity to witness Marina Abramović as an exceptional and charismatic speaker.
The Artist Talks series, launched in May 2017, offers a unique opportunity for audiences around the world to listen and communicate with contemporary artists about their creative processes. As it was said above, Abramović will be the third artist to provide this first-hand experience - the previous two were Tino Sehgal, whose talk was held at Fondation Beyeler in Riehen-Basel, Switzerland, and the discussion with Wolfgang Tillmans that took place at the Fondation Beyeler as well. Further Artist Talks are planned for major cities around the world, so we've got that to look forward to. The conversation with Marina Abramović will also mark the realization of Fondation Beyeler’s plans to expand the space of their main building with new architectural solutions, as seen on the image above.
The latest Artist Talks edition will offer an insight into the entire body of work and the creative mindsight of Marina Abramović, one of the greatest contemporary artists in the world. Organized by Fondation Beyeler and UBS Arts, the event will take place on the 4th of October, 2017, at the Serpentine Sackler Gallery in London, UK. Although the event has already sold out, the entire conversation will be live-streamed on the Fondation Beyeler’s Facebook Page - the stream will commence at 7 PM on Wednesday. It will offer a chance to see the show first-hand and, furthermore, audiences online will be encouraged to participate with questions in the comments section.
