Hang-Up Gallery Opens a Brand New Exhibition Space in London

November 26, 2019

An independent contemporary art gallery based in East London, Hang-Up Gallery champions contemporary artists, selling and presenting artworks through a dynamic exhibition program. They have a worldwide reputation as being major dealers in Banksy artwork, but they also deal with in works by Harland Miller, David Shrigley, KAWS and Takashi Murakami.

The gallery is launching the new watershed gallery space which will offer nearly 2000 square feet of contemporary space and 5-meter-high ceilings with an abundance of natural light. This new space will be launched with a dynamic group show of some of the gallery's favorite artists, including Banksy, Grayson Perry, Harland Miller, Joe Webb, Tim Fishlock and KAWS.

The New Space

Founded in 2008 in Dalston, London, the Hang-Up Gallery has built a considerable international following over the past decade, propelled by its friendly and approachable ethos. In 2019, it was also cited as one of the Five Places to Visit in London by The New York Times.

The gallery will now move to the striking new waterfront location in Hoxton, remodeled into a sharp, purpose-built contemporary gallery space with bold architectural floor to ceiling doors and polished concrete floors. The representatives believe the new space reflects the gallery's vision and enables them to continue to push boundaries with much larger scale exhibitions. Owner Ben Cotton said:

We are increasingly focused on showing original works and paintings, both in secondary and primary markets. And now we have a bigger space, for bigger shows.

The scale of the space will also be more flexible, easily configured for shows on two levels if necessary; more collaborative, featuring a deliberately collaborative mezzanine studio, with a full kitchen to boot; more efficient, becoming equally the gallery's center of operations for fulfilling online orders; and will move to an appointment-only gallery, enabling the team to spend more time with collectors.

Works on View

The visitors will have an opportunity to see a rare grey artist’s proof of Banksy’s Morons, a screen print executed in 2006 depicting an auctioneer conducting a sale to a room packed with bidders.

Other highlights of the show will be the latest signed, numbered color etching by Grayson Perry, one of the most incisive commentators of the contemporary society and culture; a print release from The Connor Brothers, known for their satirical reinterpretations of Mills & Boon book covers and cynical view of the contemporary culture; large new paintings from Dave White and Tim Fishlock; alongside new work from Joe Webb and Nina Saunders and works by Harland Miller and KAWS.
