December 5, 2018

Each December, the Miami Art Week becomes the center of the art world, hosting over 20 international art fairs, more than 1,200 galleries and thousands of artists. The annual cultural event will also attract thousands of art collectors and buyers, VIPs, art lovers and tourists from all around the world.

A driving force in supporting the role galleries play in nurturing the careers of artists, Art Basel Miami Beach is certainly the biggest player at South Beach’s Convention Center. This year as well, it will bring together leading galleries from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa, showing significant work from the masters of Modern and contemporary art, as well as the new generation of emerging stars.

Taking over the entire city and nearly all its cultural institutions, the Miami Art Week has much more events to offer. Here are five small satellite fairs in Miami that you should definitely check out.

FRAME art fair

With an idea to address accurately the needs of the contemporary art ecosystem, FRAME art fair comes back for its third edition this December. Titled FRAMEmotion, it will offer a different format from previous iterations with an ever greater ambition: a very limited number of artists and very few galleries for the most curated art fair in Miami.

As Bertrand Scholler, founder and director of the FRAME, explains, the latest edition will "create something unique, something collectors have never seen in an art fair.” The audience will have an opportunity to see four tightly curated exhibitions with real selection and scenography, a handful of artists - only 25 - in a 1,000 sqm venue.

The first exhibition will be a retrospective of the work of Jason Newsted from his early creations to his present creation; the second show will revisit the Silk road and the interaction between European, Middle-Eastern and Asian countries; the third show questions power and how both the strong and the weak are necessarily intricately connected; while the fourth show will be about the power of money and therefore the power-cons of art.

The FRAMEmotion takes place at 1671 Collins Avenue MIAMI BEACH until March 25th, 2019.

A must for collectors, curators and artists from all over the world who are in the city for the Miami Art Week, PINTA MIAMI is coming back for its 12th edition. The fair will present different projects with international curators, offering a unique platform to what’s a Latin American art fair with a global perspective.

The Main Section of the fair will bring together around 60 galleries from Latin America, the United States and Europe, presenting works from more than 300 artists. The fair will also present Solo Projects, curated by Jesus Fuenmayor; PINTA Countries Sections, presenting five focus countries - Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico, the first iteration of Pinta Platforms, curated by Roc Laseca; Projects Section, with an exhibition AD-Astra curated by Ysabel Pinyol; and PINTA EDITIONS, with leading publishers presenting edition works and prints.

PINTA MIAMI will take place at Mana Wynwood in the Miami's Art District from December 5th until December 9th, 2018.

The price of the daily tickets will be $30 (seniors/students 12 – 18: $15).

A cutting-edge cultural platform that is multidisciplinary in scope, PRIZM promotes the work of artists from Africa and global African Diaspora, who reflect global trends in contemporary art. Throughout the year, the fair works to expand Miami's visual arts landscape through workshops and special events.

Taking place this December, PRIZM will offer a dynamic group or contemporary artists from Miami to Lagos, highlighting the diversity evident in contemporary visual art practices today through media such as painting, sculpture and mixed media installations. PRIZM will also feature the work of emerging Miami-based contemporary artists who focus on socio-political and cultural issues pertinent to the people of African descent in Miami and beyond.

The fair will be organized in three exhibitions curated by Jeffreen Hayes, Mikhaile Solomon and William Cordova, articulating narratives in Africa and the African Diaspora through varying degrees of currency. The fair will also present special sections, Prizm Preview, Prizm Panels, Prizm Film, and Prizm Perform.

Prizm Art Fair 2018 will take place Alfred I. DuPont Building in Miami until December 9th, 2018.

The price of Prizm One-Day Pass tickets will be $15, while the Prizm All Access VIP Pass will be $150.

The fair will present Galleries, which will extend their reach to an international audience during Art Basel week, Special Projects and Collectives, featuring cutting-edge projects, cultural institutions and visual art research initiatives, and Individual Curated Artists / Very limited solo booth, modeled on the concept of studio visits.
