New Tatiana Trouve Art Soon at Galerie Perrotin Hong Kong

Exhibition Announcements

March 19, 2017

In their interplay between dimension, perspective, and scale, Tatiana Trouvé art pieces derail time and space while regenerating themselves via installations, drawings, sculptures and architectural forms. Two elements present in her work, the space and image, are completed with a third: a remembrance. Gathering a new series of sculptures and drawings, the latest Tatiana Trouvé art exhibition will soon be on view at Galerie Perrotin in Hong Kong. Titled House of Leaves, the exhibition will explore the concept of inhabiting - examining the ways in which an individual can find their home in the world. The opening of the show will be held during the Art Basel Hong Kong week.

Inhabiting the World

The spatial interventions of Tatiana Trouvé are always uninhabited. Inspired by the curious openness to the world of the Italian architect Ugo La Pietra, summed up in his thought that “to inhabit is to be at home everywhere”, the artist considers the mobility and outlook as the only ways to be at home, potentially everywhere. On the other hand, the reach of our gaze also contains the look of another – while we walk, we follow their footsteps. If the inhabiting is also a way of seeing, then an individual who travels and belongs to the world as much as the world belongs to him can fulfill his experience of life in only one habitat: the hut. This ephemeral architecture enables a person to be at home everywhere, since it is a place where the dimensions of domestic and wild, the boundaries of interior and exterior, inside and outside, overlap and harmonize, forming an intermediate world that forges a way of reconnecting with the world, according to Trouvé.

The Unremembered

The Trouvé show will display the series The Unremembered [Les Dessouvenus] started in 2013, bringing us back to memory, its deficiencies, and even its loss. These drawings of spatial creations are very unsettling, having metaphorical representations of places of thought that take us into a dream world, a world of the unconscious. Forgetting means to lose the use of one’s memory and hence living in a depopulated present which the past no longer penetrates, and in which events, people, things and places are disconnected. Suggesting spiritualist apparitions and old X-ray images, these drawings depict objects that structure their spaces borrow from elements of a personal iconography involved in the creation of the artist’s work.

Tatiana Trouve Art Exhibition at Galerie Perrotin

Existing in the interstice separating expectation from activation, the works of Tatiana Trouvé troublingly transform the exhibition space into a place seemingly in wait for some possible event. In these drawings, we should be seeing the trace of the artist’s works as a constant return to previous or not yet undertaken projects. The exhibition House of Leaves by Trouvé will be on view at Galerie Perrotin in Hong Kong from March 20th until May 20th, 2017. The opening reception will be held on Monday, March 20th, from 6 to 8 p.m.
