The season of auctions is slowly going on a vacation, until autumn comes. We've had that big frenzy about contemporary art sales at the biggest auction houses in the world last week, and now the time is for somewhat lesser-known auction houses and lesser-know artists. Hence, the average lot value at all of these auctions will be much lower than we've used to expect.
We have picked four auctions of contemporary art for you in the next seven days. First, on July 7, Tajan auction house in Paris will host a Modern Art Sale, but many artworks by contemporary artists will be auctioned as well. Then, on Wednesday, July 8, Trending Up: Super Contemporary Romanian Artists auction will take place at Artmark auction house in Bucharest, Romania. On Saturday, July 11, SBI Art Auction in Tokyo, Japan, will host a Modern and Contemporary Art auction, and on Sunday, July 12, McTear's auction house in Glasgow, Scotland, will organize The Scottish Contemporary Art Auction. Total of 837 lots in these four auctions have their value estimated at $1.97 - $2.94 million - less than the average lot value at Christie's and Sotheby's last week, but, hey! Who says art needs to be expensive? These artworks that we are going to present to you certainly proves different.
It may have been named Modern Art Sale, but the fact is that the auction at Tajan Paris (July 7 at 3 PM at Espace Tajan, Paris, France) will put on sale about 60 contemporary artworks. Works by contemporary artists like Victor Vasarely, Shepard Fairey, Josh Smith, Nobuyoshi Araki, Arman and Ben, amongst the others will be auctioned, and the estimated average lot value is $3,176.
If you visit Trending Up: Super Contemporary Romanian Artists auction that is scheduled on July 8 at 7:30 PM atArtmark auction house in Bucharest (Athénée Palace Hilton București), you will see the first art auction that is entirely dedicated to the emerging new wave of young Romanian art, with some post-1989 art motifs as well as some universal symbols from all around the Balkans. Total of 73 lots will be auctioned, for the average of $1,186 per lot.
The third auction that we will focus on next week is Modern and Contemporary Art at SBI Art Auction, at Tokyo (Terratoria, 2-6-10 Higashi-shinagawa, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, Japan). It will start at 2 PM (Tokyo time), and it will feature many Asian contemporary artworks - by Araki Nobuyoshi, Sugimoto Hiroshi, Okamoto Taro, Yamaguchi Takeo, Yamada Masaaki, Yayoi Kusama, Shiraga Kazuo, Motonaga Sadamasa, Takamatsu Jiro, or Kawara On, to name just a few. There will be also some works by Western artists - Banksy, Jeff Koons, Keith Haring or KAWS, but the was majority of works are by famous Asian contempoaray artists.
Finally, the last auction that we will focus on next week will be The Scottish Contemporary Art Auction at McTear's auction house in Glasgow, Scotland. It will start on July 12 at 2 PM, and it will feature more than 300 pieces of contemporary art, in most cases made by Scottish contemporary artists - John Bellany, Peter Howson, Jack Morrocco, Alison Watt, Graham McKean, Rosanne Barr, Gerard Burns... The estimated average lot value at The Scottish Contemporary Art Auction is one thousand dollars.
