Hello, auctions fans, the time has come for another upcoming auctions post. This week will be somewhat calm, as it should, because the next week is going to be just insane, with huge number of auctions. But, hey, let's stick to this week, from May 4 to May 10. We have selected four auctions for you. First, on May 5, at Tajan auction house in Paris, Photographies auction will take place. Then, the next day, May 6, Moderne Und Zeitgenössische Kunst (Modern & Contemporary Art) auction will kick off at Dorotheum in Vienna. Also on May 6, Gray's Auctioneers, auction house from Cleveland, will host Modern, Post-War & Contemporary Art auction. Finally, on May 8, at Dobiaschofsky auction house in Bern there will be auction of International Art Selection (Internationale Kunst Sélection).
First of our four next week's auctions that are in focus is going to happen at Tajan, Paris on May 5 at 3 PM (37 rue des Mathurins, 75008 Paris, France). This auctions of photography - Photographies - will cover photographs all the way back from 1850's to the beginning of the 21st Century, but we will concetrate mainly on photographs made after the World War II. Josef Koudelka's photograph Gitans from 1962-1971 (Lot 126) is one of the priciest lots of the auction, as it is estimated at $10,035 - $11,200. Three works by a famous photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson come next - Roumanie from 1975 (Lot 113) (estimated at $5,600 - $7,840), Montjustin from 1977 (Lot 111) ($5,600 - $6,720) and Palerme, Italie from 1971 (Lot 114) ($3,360 - $5,600). Jacques Olivar's Airstream Romance, Altadena, Ca from 2008 (Lot 167) is also estimated at $3,360 - $5,600, while two Robert Mapplethorpe's works, Dennis Speight (Portfolio Z) from 1981 (Lot 152) and Sans Titre (Portfolio X) from 1978 (Lot 153) are both estimated at $4,412 - $6,618. Bettina Rheims' Crocodile De Profil, Paris from 1983 (Lot 150) should be sold for $3,860 - $4,963, and Chuck Close's Sunflower from 1989 (Lot 166) and Robert Doisneau's Le Manège De M. Barré from 1955 (Lot 85) should go for $2,016 - $2,464. Herbert List's Anna Magnani executed in (circa) 1950 (Lot 73) should change hands for $1,680 - $2,800 and Inge Morath's Lama À Times Square, New York from 1957 (Lot 80) will have the same low estimated price but lower high estimate ($1,680 - $2,016).
At Gray's Auctioneers (10717 Detroit Ave, 44102 Cleveland OH, United States) on Wednesday, May 6 at 11 AM Modern, Post-War & Contemporary Art auction will take place, with some well known household names and their artworks. Zhao Gang's Black Dream (Lot 25) is one of the priciest lots of the auction, as it is estimated at $30,000-40,000. One of the earlier works by Roy Lichtenstein, Alice In Wonderland from 1947 (Lot 12) is estimated at $20,000 - $40,000, and Andy Warhol's Hot Dog Bean (From Campbell's Soup II) from 1969 (Lot 69) should be sold for $10,000 - $15,000. Joseph B. O'Sickey's Horses In Cornfield #6 from 1974 (Lot 11) could go for as well as $20,000 (estimated at $10,000-20,000), Ellsworth Kelly's Portrait Of The Artist's Wife, Claudine Hermann Meschers from 1953 (Lot 89) should be sold for $8,000 - $12,000, as well as Edwin Mieczkowski's Anvil from 1987 (Lot 6). Robert Motherwell's Gesture III, executed in 1967/77 (Lot 81), might go for five-figure price ($7,000 - $9,000), while Chuck Close's Janet from 2007 (Lot 91) and Darice Polo's Statue Of Liberty 1958 from 2011 (Lot 30) are both estimated at $5,000-7,000. Diana Al Hadid's Untitled from 2014 (Lot 77), Paul Jenkins' Mandala Meditation Sundial from 1981 (Lot 21) and Pat Adams' Clearing from 1980 (Lot 13) are each estimated at $4,000-6,000, Martin Ball's Untitled from 2011 (Lot 19) should be sold for $3,000-5,000, and Charles Basham's The Calm (Lot 63) will have a bit lower high estimate ($3,000-4,000).
At the same day as the auction at Gray's Auctioneers (on Wednesday, May 6 at 5 PM), Moderne Und Zeitgenössische Kunst (Modern And Contemporary Art) auction will occur at Dorotheum auction house in Vienna (Dorotheergasse, 17, 1010 Vienna, Austria). The lot that should achieve the highest hammer price is Otto Muehl's Untitled from 1980 (Lot 171), which is estimated at $22,400 - $31,360. Peter Kogler's Untitled from 1995 (Lot 237) is estimated at $10,080 - $13,440, Piero Dorazio's Sinope from 1996 (Lot 210) at $7,840 - $11,200, and Afro Basaldella's Nudo Disteso Sul Divano [Recumbent Nude On A Sofa] from 1944 (Lot 33) should be sold for $7,280 - $9,520. Several artworks are estimated at $5,600 - $7,840: Man Ray's Pittura Naturale from 1971, (Lot 156), Sergio Lombardo's FAX-TAN from 1984 (Lot 198), Michel Francois' Léone A L'atterrissage Des Avions from 1999 (Lot 216), Spencer Tunick's Austria 1 from 2008 (Lot 223), Susan Swartz's Approaching Dawn 2 (Lot 273) and Andy Warhol's Untitled (Lot 276). Hans Hartung's P3 - 1977 - H44 from 1977 (Lot 167) should be sold for $4,480 - $6,720, while Arnulf Rainer's Untitled (Asiatischer Kopf) (Lot 235) and Franz Von Zülow's Haus Nummer 12 (Lot 82) are both estimated at $3,360 - $5,040.
Finally, on Friday, May 8, at 2 PM, there will be an International Art Selection auction (Internationale Kunst Sélection) at Dobiaschofsky auction house in Bern (Auktionen Ag, Monbijoustrasse, 30/32, 3001 Bern Be, Switzerland). Lots at Dobiaschofsky will not have high and low estimate, but one estimated value, and the reserve price will be set between 1/2 and 2/3 of the estimation. Miquel Barcelo's Bodegón (épi de mais) from 1984 (Lot 565) should achieve the highest price, as it is estimated at $62,808. Mark Tobey's Abstraction from 1960 (Lot 586) should be sold for $12,561, and Antoni Tàpies' Ohne Titel (JD) (Lot 583) could go as high as $10,752. Karel Appel's Figurative Komposition from 1972 (Lot 571) is estimated at $9,421, while Giuseppe Santomaso's Abstrakte Komposition (Lot 567) and Rogelio Polesello's Roso Sobre Azul X Azul Sobre Roso from 1960 (Lot 587) are both estimated at $6,451. Mario Schifano's Rai Due (Lot 585) should change hands for $5,376, Sam Francis' Untitled (Lot 569) for $5,234, and Zao Wou-Ki's Montagnes Et Soleil from 1951 (Lot 552) should go for $5,161. Sol LeWitt's Incomplete Open Cube from 1974 (Lot 572) and Andy Warhol's Hearts from 1973 (Lot 584) are both estimated at $4,838, Mark Tobey's Komposition from 1969 (Lot 566) should be sold for $4,710, Victor Vasarely's Sauzon (Lot 573) for $4,187, while André Lanskoy's Composition from 1941 (Lot 537) and Serge Poliakoff's Komposition In Orange from 1956 (Lot 556) should both be sold for $4,086.
