The Chicago based Vertical Gallery has gained quite a reputation since its inception in 2013, presenting a host of group and solo exhibitions with a focus on urban & street art, graphic design, illustration and pop culture. To celebrate its forthcoming second anniversary, Vertical Gallery is presenting 2 for 2 – Two Year Anniversary Group Show, which will present works from fifteen international artists. For the one year anniversary, Vertical Gallery teamed up with Australian print house Stupid Krap, for a show curated by Ben Frost, which you can read more about in Opening Night: Paper Jam. 2 for 2 will see each of the fifteen artists contribute two original artworks for the new group show, which should make for an excellent exhibition.
The 2 for 2 – Two Year Anniversary Group Show is the perfect way for Vertical Gallery to reflect on the successful time they have had since launching in 2013. In that time, Vertical Gallery has put on successful exhibitions such as Lost and Found by My Dog Sighs and Savage Gaze by Stinkfish, alongside group shows like ARTmageddon, featuring C215, XENZ and Cope2 amongst many others. Owner of Vertical Gallery, Patrick Hull, stated ‘We have a very exciting year of shows and wall mural projects planned throughout the city, and are thrilled to start our third year with this amazing line-up for our two year anniversary.’ The line-up for the 2 for 2 – Two Year Anniversary Group Show is indeed quite amazing, bringing together a host of international names that are well established in the graffiti and street art scene, with each providing two original artworks for the new group show, it promises to be an excellent celebration for the second anniversary of Vertical Gallery.
So, the big question, who will you see at the 2 for 2 – Two Year Anniversary Group Show? First up will be the father of stencil art, French street artist Blek le Rat, widely considered to be one of the first artists to create graffiti with stencils back in the 1980’s and considered an influence on Banksy. Hera, one half of the renowned duo and creators of beautiful murals, Herakut, will have work on show as will UK street artist Inkie, considered part of the infamous underground Bristol graffiti scene. Etnik will be providing some of his amazing geometric creations, which will look wonderful next to the beautiful works of Polish street artist Tank Petrol. Copyright will be celebrating also, with some of his distinctive and stylised works, which would sit nicely next to the work of Martin Whatson. If you feel like celebrating, then Vertical Gallery is the place to be with 2 for 2 shaping up to be a feast for the eyes.
