Enter an Open Art Competition to Color the City of Gothenburg!
Preparing for the city’s 400th anniversary in 2021, Gothenburg will create several urban development projects. One of those projects will be a 21km-long stretch of public art. Started by West Sweden Painting Contractors Association, the project Let’s Colour Gothenburg will organize an art competition as an opportunity for artists to help colorize the city. Titled Gothenburg Art 21, the competition will be open for everyone across the globe to submit their creative ideas on what to paint, color schemes, and other great ways of making the project happen.
Gothenburg 21 Art Competition
The winning submissions of the art competition will be created along a 21km-long stretch running through Gothenburg, from the Blå Stället Culture Centre in the northeast of Gothenburg to the Röda Sten Art Hall by the North Sea in the west. It will include painted art accompanied by lighting in smaller sections. Recruiting youth from the suburbs of Gothenburg where the unemployment is high, the project aims to put them into work and unite the city. During the project that will reinvigorate the suburbs with paint and colors, the participating youth will be trained to become professional painters.
How to Participate
In order to participate in this art competition, all you have to do is to submit your artwork or color scheme for an area in 21km of Art. Besides helping in providing the unemployment youth a job opportunity, each entry is qualified for a valuable prize or a visit to Gothenburg. Before submitting your entry, you can check out the official website for inspirational videos, information about the areas, prizes and the project in general.
Using any device, anyone can vote once for the entry they like on the official website. In order to collect more votes, the participants should share their entries on social media channels.
After the voting is closed, 21 entries with the most votes will qualify for the final round. The jury consisting of artists, architects, and city developers from Gothenburg will select 12 winners of the competition. The winners will be presented via live stream event during the Gothenburg Culture Festival.
The winners will be presented with either Diamond, Gold or Silver prizes. As part of the Diamond prize category, two winners will be invited to Gothenburg to perform and paint their entries, accompanied by a 2000 euros prize each.
