July 4, 2015

Contemporary Art Day Sale Auction took place at Phillips, London, on Wednesday, June 30th 2015. The auction was not as successful as it was anticipated – seventy percent of lots offered were sold. The auction gathered $5,875,620. The most expensive lots were Damien Hirst’s Beautiful, beautiful, charity childrens, spin painting (with butterflies) that was sold for $376,994; and Yves Kleins La Victoire de Samothrace, sold for $219,913. The highest high estimate difference was achieved with the sale of Koen Vanmechelen’s Cosmopolitan Fossil topping the high estimate for 587.5 percent.

Damien Hirst – Rules of Deconstruction

Damien Hirst’s Beautiful, beautiful, charity childrens, spin painting (with butterflies) was the most expensive lot on the Contemporary Art Day Sale Auction at Phillips. This beautiful work poses the question of the deconstruction of the image. As Hirst said himself – when you see a finished art work, it is like the artwork sort of presents what it is trying to do; you can see the rules of construction. On the other hand, it is quite difficult for an artist to see these rules, since you can’t help lying to yourself, as famous Damien Hirst would say.
