True Colors at Galerie Hegemann
A true celebration of art during the show True Colors at Galerie Hegemann in Munich! The exhibition in this wonderful Munich gallery will present the works by El Bocho and Quintessenz. What will be central to this show are colorful and expressive paintings by El Bocho, a Berlin-based street artist, and Quintessenz, duo comprised of Thomas Granseuer and Tomislav Topic. The works by El Bocho and Quintessenz together form a beautiful and coherent show, where the abstract paintings (by Quintessenz) are creating an interesting dialogue with the figurative pictures from El Bocho. The show entitled True Colors takes places at one of the most recognized Munich galleries – Galerie Hegemann.
True Colors: The Art of El Bocho
El Bocho is Frankfurt-born and Berlin-based artist with an international reputation (take a look at our list of 10 German artists). He has been working in the streets since 1997. The main components of his work are communications and references to urban life. El Bocho is not a “fan” of institutions – it is important for him to work outside the art scene, as this reaches an audience that does not visit art-specific locations like galleries or museums. He tries to communicate with his audience and to create work in this mutual correspondence. In July 2009 El Bocho completed the world’s largest tape art piece of the world in Berlin. 15.000 meter of tape was used on 1100 square meters at the front of the Stadtbad Wedding in Berlin (for Berlin art spaces, check out our list of 10 galleries in Berlin). In November and December 2009 he was an artist in residence at the Red Bull House of Art in São Paulo / Brazil. He was featured in different TV shows, such as German, Hungarian, Israeli, American and Hong Kong productions. His newest experiment involves exposing poster paper to sunlight and precipitation, then adding color, before leaving it outside again to mesh with the natural surroundings. His latest works will be part of show at Galerie Hegemann.
True Colors: Quintessenz
Quintessenz is composed of Thomas Granseuer and Tomislav Topic. This art cooperation from Berlin and Hannover has been founded in 2008. They began working together during their studies at University of Hildesheim. Quintessenz is a collective that dwells on materials, space and the transitions in between. Their emphasis is on film, installation art, illustration and promotion. What is central to Quintessenz’s works is a interplay between digital and analogue worlds. The name of this duo comes from Latin word for the fifth entity or the crucial point. Quintessenz unite formative and functional elements in order to cohere something complete and alive, and precisely that is the substance of their style. Their latest works will be part of the True Colors show at Galerie Hegemann.
