We have chosen four auctions that will be in our focus next week – photography admirers and fans of Italian contemporary art will be pleased! First of all, on Tuesday, April 28, there will be auction of Photographs at Bonhams in New York, with some of the big names in photography of 19th, 20th and 21st Century. Also on April 28, at Christie’s in Milan, Milan Modern And Contemporary auction will take place, with lots of works by Lucio Fontana, Michelangelo Pistoletto, and other Italian artists. Then, the next day, on Wednesday, April 29, at Auctionata New York, there will be an auction inspired by pop-icons, named Theme Auction: Icons, where you’ll find a lot of works inspired by Marylin Monroe, Muhammad Ali and rock-stars of the second half of 20th Century. Finally, on Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3, in three sessions, at Sotheby’s New York will be held Prints & Multiples auction, where will be auctioned a lot of works by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. Photographs at Bonhams

At Bonhams auction house in New York (580 Madison Avenue, 6th Floor, 10022 New York NY, United States), on Tuesday, April 28 at 1 PM, Photographs auction will take place. Photography lovers will find a various range of works, from the beginning of the 20th Century, up to the present, and the priciest lot will be Ansel Adams’ photo from 1944, Clearing Winter Storm, Yosemite National Park, California (Lot 8), that is estimated at $30,000 – 50,000. Back to the 2000’s, next lot with the highest estimated value is Shirin Neshat’s Couple at Intersection, From Fervor Series from 2000 ($20,000 – $30,000), as well as Hiroshi Sugimoto’s Baltic Sea, Rügen from 1996 (Lot 78). Photography by famous movie director Stanley Kubrick, Mickey, The Shoe-shine Boy from 1947 (Lot 36) is estimated at $15,000 – 20,000, while Gregory Crewdson’s Untitled (Pregnant Woman/Pool), 1999, From Twilight Series, executed at 1998-2002, should be sold for $15,000 – 25,000. Another photography by Shirin Neshat, On Guard from 1997 (Lot 92) is estimated at $10,000 – $15,000, as well as Alfred Stieglitz’s “oldie”, Equivalent (Songs Of The Sky) from 1924 (Lot 29). Rineke Dijkstra’s Vendas Novas, Portugal from 2000 (Lot 80) should change hands for $8,000 – $12,000, David Hockney’s The Steering Wheel from 1982 (Lot 105) and Ansel Adams’ Edward Weston, Carmel Highlands from 1945 (Lot 4) should be sold for $7,000 – $10,000, while a whole range of works is estimated at $6,000 – $8,000: Nan Goldin’s Mash Naked At The Bar Rouge, Tokyo from 1998 (Lot 99), Helmut Newton’s Sumo from 1999 (Lot 90), Robert Mapplethorpe’s Winter Landscape from 1979 (Lot 76) and Loretta Lux’s The Dove from 2006 (Lot 84).

At Christie’s auction house in Milan (5 Via Clerici, 20121 Milan, Italy) on April 28 at 7 PM (Lots 1 – 48) and April 29 at 3 PM (Lots 50 – 89), Milan Modern And Contemporary auction will take place, where you will find a lot of artworks by Italian Modern and Contemporary artists. Lucio Fontana will be represented with several artworks, and some of them are the priciest lots of the auction. A few of his works from Concetto Spaziale series are estimated between $430,000 and $960,000: Concetto Spaziale, Attesa executed in 1964-65 (Lot 15) ($643,255 – $964,882), Concetto Spaziale, Attese from 1960 (Lot 38) and 1964 (Lot 21) (estimated at $536,046 – $857,673), Concetto Spaziale, Attesa from 1959-60 (Lot 27) ($536,046 – $750,464) and Concetto Spaziale from 1962 (Lot 9) ($428,837 – $643,255). Theme Auction: Icons at Auctionata

Then, on Wednesday, April 29, at Auctionata auction house in New York (595 Madison Ave, 5th Floor, 10022 New York NY, United States), conveniently, at “high noon”, Theme Auction: Icons will take place. Everyone who lived in the 20th Century will be fond of this auction, as many of pop icons and celebrities from the last century were the inspiration for these artworks – a quick review of popular culture and its icons. Andy Warhol was one of these pop icons, and he also drew inspiration from these pop icons, and his Santa Claus from 1981 (Lot 82) will have the highest estimated value at this auction ($28,800 – $36,000). Terry O’Neill’s two works, Frank Sinatra, Miami from 1968 (Lot 32) and Brigitte Bardot from 1971 (Lot 67), are both estimated at $17,000 – $34,000 (the first price is starting price, and the latter is estimated value), and another Warhol’s work, Lamentation from 1986 (Lot 5) should be sold for $16,000 – $20,000. Bert Stern’s From the Last Sitting from 1962 (Lot 51) is estimated at $12,000 – $15,000, Mark Seliger’s Barack Obama, USA from 2010 (detail) (Lot 62) should change hands for $10,000 – $20,000, and another artwork inspired by one of the United States’ president, Jimmy Carter III by Andy Warhol, is estimated at $8,000 – $10,000. Deborah Kass’ Red Barbra from 1992 (Lot 73) is estimated at $15,000 (starting price is half of that), Elizabeth Peyton’s John and Jackie from 2000 (Lot 54) should be sold for around $14,000 (starting price is $7,000), and Sid Avery’s Ocean’s Eleven Cast from 1960 (Lot 31) is estimated at around $12,000.

Finally, at Sotheby’s New York (1334 York Avenue, 10021 New York NY, United States), Prints & Multiples auction will take place in two days. First, on Friday, May 1, at 2 PM, firs session will be held, in which lots 1 – 146 will be auctioned. Then, on Saturday, May 2, there will be two sessions: at 10 AM (lots 147 – 274) and at 2 PM (lots 275 – 355). A lot of Andy Warhol’s work will be auctioned, and his Ten Portraits Of Jews Of The Twentieth Century from 1980 (Lot 248) is amongst the highest priced lots of the auction ($150,000 – $200,000). Roy Lichtenstein’s Reflections On Crash from 1990 (Lot 309) is estimated at $100,000 – $150,000, and another Warhol’s work, $ (9) from 1982 (Lot 349) should be sold at $80,000 – $120,000.
