Upcoming Auctions: Feb 23 - Mar 1

We have prepared four interesting auctions that will occur next week – from February 23rd to March 1st. The first one comes on 24th February in Palais Doroteum in Vienna, Austria. This is the largest auction house in Central Europe and one of the leading auction houses in the world, and on Tuesday 24th there will be modern and contemporary art on sale. The highest estimated artwork will be Franz Grabmayr’s Untitled painting (oil on canvas, 93 x 116 cm), that is estimated 22-32 thousand euros. The next highest estimated art piece is Herbert Brandl’s also Untitled painting from 1982 (oil on molino – central segment, plywood – sides, 90 x 126 cm). This painting is supposed to go in the range of 18-26 thousand euros.

Fritz Wotruba’s Relief mit neun Figuren [Relief with Nine Figures] from 1961, is estimated from 15 to 22 thousand euros (approximately 17-25 thousand US dollars), and Poesie, oil on canvas dated 1951 from Karl Sterrer should be sold in the range of 8-14 thousand euros. Walter Pichler’s Schlafstelle in meiner Werkstatt in St. Martin [Berth in my workshop in St. Martin], from 1976, should change owners for 6-9 thousand euros, and Harding Meyer‘s oil on canvas from 2007 Untitled (116 x 146 cm) is estimated from 6 to 8 thousand euros.

Art + Design in Wright, Chicago

On Thursday, February 26 there will be two auctions going on, and the first one is called Art + Design in Wright auction house in Chicago. In this auction house that was established in the year 2000, the priciest lot should be Roy Lichtenstein‘s work Water Lilies (Pink Flower) from 1992. This Lichtenstein’s piece is estimated between 70 and 90 thousand US dollars. At the same price range should also be Dave Muller’s Diaristic, acrylic on paper that was made from 2001 to 2004, and consists of 100 works on paper.

Then there is Andy Warhol‘s Volkswagen Lemon (from the Ads Series) that was made back in 1985, and is estimated from 20 to 30 thousand dollars. Similar price should also achieve Thomas Downing’s Red Bloom from 1963 (oil on canvas) and Bernard Buffet’s Untitled from 1958 (oil pastel and graphite on paper). Jim Dine‘s Colored Circle from 1961 is also estimated from 20 to 30 thousand. For slightly less money (15-20 thousand dollars) should be sold Karel Appel‘s work from 1969 called Oiseau et Garçon.

Sol LeWitt‘s Maquette for Chicago Wall Project from 1983 is estimated from 5 to 7 thousand, as well as Donald Judd‘s Untitled (study for sculpture) from 1969. Robert Indiana‘s screenprint on paper called Golden Love from 1973 should be sold between 3 and 5 thousand. Marche en campagne, the work of Jean Dubuffet is in the same price range, and for a bit lower is estimated price for the Edward Ruscha‘s Every Building on the Sunset Strip from 1966. At the end, there is Claes Oldenburg‘s Chicago Stuffed with Numbers from 1977, that should go between 10 and 15 hundred dollars.

On the same day when Art + Design auction will be held in Wright auction house in Chicago, there will be auction of photographies in Auctionata in New York. In the mix of contemporary and old influential photographers and their work, the biggest estimated value in the auction is Ruud van Empel’s Boy from 2014, with starting price at $40,000 and estimated value $80,000. Vik Muniz‘s Northeaster, after Winslow Homer from 2010 has its starting price at 26 thousand, with an estimated value at 50 thousand. Richard Avedon‘s Suzy Parker is from 1957 and has starting price at 18 thousand (estimated is double), while the starting price for Massimo Vitali‘s Mondello Paddle Boats is 11 thousand. Adam Fuss’ Untitled from 2007 is estimated at 15 thousand, and David Ddrebin’s Selfie from 2014 has its estimated value at 12 thousand dollars (starting price is set at 6 thousand).

Modern and Contemporary Art in Cannes

At the end of this week, on Sunday March 1st, in the Auction House in Cannes, France (Cannes Enchères – Hôtel des ventes de Cannes) the auction of Modern and Contemporary Art – books, prints, paintings and sculptures – will be held. Some of the most prominent art works in this auction are Andy Warhol‘s Ladies and Gentlemen from 1975, that is estimated between 120 and 150 thousand euros, Bernard Buffet’s Vase de fleurs sur un guéridon from 1991 that should be sold in the range of 85 to 100 thousand euros, and Georges Mathieu‘s Venitian from 1970, that is estimated from 60 to 70 thousand euros. In the lower price range there are Louis Toffoli’s Les Buffles dans la rizière from 1980 (23.000-25.000€), Théo Tobiasse’s Homme assis devant une synagogue from 1968 (price range from 15 to 20 thousand euros) and Gudmundur Erro’s Lola and silver sabler from 2012 (12-15 thousand). Also, at the same price range as Erro’s work there is David LaChapelle‘s Naomi Campbell : Twisted Sister from 1999, an Jean-François Larrieu’s Manhattan is estimated from 5500 to 6500 euros.
