About JonOne
John “JonOne” Perello grew up in Harlem where graffiti and tags were seen in everyday life. Nowadays, JonOne has structured his work from the streets of New York to the “limitations” of canvas (some extremely large) and he now fancy more brushstrokes than air sprays. However, even though we can see some inspirations coming from Jackson Pollock, Jean Dubuffet or even Henri Matisse, the street is still very much there. JonOne’s extremely colorful paintings remind us of the frenzy of large cities, of their bright lights and social codes. JonOne’s work is an allegory of the Urban Jungle in which most of us live, but always seen from the optimist and colorful side of life.

About Shepard Fairey
Shepard Fairey’s first major work was reproducing black and white images of the wrestler Andre ‘The Giant’ Roussimoff. The posters, paper and vinyl sticker reproductions of the wrestler were originally targeted at punks and skateboarders, but eventually became a more widespread phenomenon. They featured an appropriated image of the wrestler with the words ‘ANDRE THE GIANT HAS A POSSE 7’4in, 520lb’, but after the threat of a lawsuit against the use of the trademarked name ‘Andre the Giant’, Fairey applied the word ‘Obey’ to the same image instead. This was also to become iconic and a decisive move in Shepard Fairey’s career, particularly in subsequent works that featured the ‘Obey’ word without any associated image

About JR
Photographer and an acclaimed French street artist, JR, is one of the rare few street artists who have the chance of exhibiting in the moat significant contemporary art galleries and museums in the world, by creating inspirational pieces in urban environments globally. Disguising his real identity, he creates huge black and white photographic posters and places them in public areas mimicking the graffiti artists’ spatial takeover. His artistic acts are heavily socially engaged, handling of issues of identity, responsibility, freedom and boundaries. Introduced by a prominent French art critic, Fabrice Bousteau, as the one already called the Cartier-Bresson of the 21st century, the 30-year-old JR has already earned a prominent spot in the world of contemporary art.

Invader’s use of low culture in a high art conceptual project also has parallels with the Situationist movement in general. The invasions don’t simply descend upon major cosmopolises, but also far-flung exotic locales such as Mombasa and Katmandu. In a metaphorical sense, his forces have razed his home city of Paris to the ground. The mosaics adorn each letter of theHollywood sign and one has even materialized on the suit jacket lapel of former French Premier Jacques Chirac.

Since his early days working on the streets of Paris during the 1990s, Zevs has risen to become one of the most prominent figures on the contemporary street art scene. He is best known today for his trademark “liquidation” technique, in which he transforms seemingly solid images into evocatively dripping ones that are perhaps more unstable than they seem. He defined the graffiti movement of the early ‘70s, painting an entire subway car without lettering, his work instead defined by an abstract, expressive aesthetic. Herakut express themselves on different bases: canvas, wood or paper. Their profoundly contrasting methods give birth to stylized works which decorate the streets with their strange uniqueness. On a background often made by Hera, Akut begins to lay strokes and creates a face without knowing what body Hera is will extend it with, and so on.
